Sleeping in the Land, written and illustrated by the award-winning Jasmine Seymour, tells the story of the Dharug language – how it was widely spoken on Dharug Country, how it slept for a time when colonisers came, and how it is being woken up now by Dharug communities learning to speak their Ancestral language together.
Possum Skin Cloak, written by award-winning author team Aunty Fay Muir and Sue Lawson and illustrated by First Nations fine artist Leanne Jones, is a superb picture book filled with themes of family, connection and Ancestors. It celebrates the tradition of wrapping a newborn in a possum skin and adding to it over time, so that it would eventually tell the story of that person’s life.
